Fire hydrant cap shoots off, floods Claremont Village streets

Water shot out of a fire hydrant for hours in Claremont Village Saturday after residents say the hydrant's cap flew off.

Tenants at the Webster Houses told News 12 that they were both shocked and annoyed after they say the fire hydrant cap flew off around noon and flooded Webster Avenue for hours.

Once firefighters arrived on the scene, they put a cover on top of the fire hydrant to help contain the water as much as possible.

Residents say the water flow from the hydrant was finally stopped Saturday evening.
