Oyster population booming in Bronx River after project
The Bronx River is now boasting a healthy population of oysters after a large project and collaboration between several government groups and other organizations two years ago.
City Parks Department Ecologist Ferdie Yau says the 50,000 oysters placed in a new, underwater reef has helped replenish the area's depleted oyster population and has helped attract other species to the river.
Yau says the project is still ongoing and that they hope to add another half-acre reef sometime next year.
