Fight over Kingsbridge Armory heats up
The fight over the long-dormant Kingsbridge Armory is heating up as two potential tenants went head-to-head last night at a community board meeting.
Each tenant is trying to convince residents that their plan is the right one.
The Mercado Mirado proposal wants to bring in an indoor market, mixed-use sports facility, movie theater and hip hop museum. It also promises nearly 1,000 full time jobs.
The other plan for a national ice center would feature a 5,000-seat arena. Reports from the developer say it would create $1.3 billion for New York City.
The New York Economic Development Corporation still must decide what makes most sense for the community. The city hopes to make a final decision by the end of the year.
