A state assemblyman from The Bronx is introducing a bill that would force the MTA to provide partitions in all of its 7,000 buses amid a rash of assaults on bus drivers. Assemblyman Eric Stevenson (D-District 79) will introduce the legislation. Bus drivers say that only about 8 percent of buses have partitions now, and some of those are not large enough to ward off violent passengers. Officials say it would cost a few thousand dollars to install a partition on each bus, but in the long-run, they would pay for themselves by avoiding lawsuits that stem from violent incidents.
