Police search for thief who pretends to know elderly victims

Police are on the hunt for a thief who pretends to know his victims, and then steals their valuables.

Officials say the thief has been striking up conversations with elderly Hispanic victims in Hunts Point, and somehow knows their names. The suspect then asks the victims if he can clean their jewelry before running away with the valuables.

Authorities say the man, who has been described as Hispanic and in his 30s, has already struck four times.

Officials say police have surveillance video of at least one of these crimes taking place, but the video is apparently too grainy.

If you have any information about these crimes, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
