MTA puts advertisements on-the-go
For the first time in 15 years, commuters could see something other than the standard blue-and-gold design on their MetroCards.
The MTA has begun allowing advertisements on the front and back of cards, starting with the Gap. Some riders will find an ad for the clothing line on their cards, along with a 20-percent discount.
The MTA says the small, yet valuable ad space will help off-set its deficit with a price of at least $2,000 for two million cards. All types of ads will be accepted, including political ads.
In a statement, MTA Chairman and CEO Joseph Lhota said, "There is no reason why the MTA shouldn't put every resource it can toward helping its fragile finances."
