Residents living near a Throgs Neck park met with city and state officials tonight to discuss a toxic situation putting development at risk. Dozens of people packed the Kips Bay Community Center on the topic of high methane levels at Ferry Point Park. A new golf course is being developed at the site, which is costing the city and Donald Trump millions of dollars. However, state environmental representatives say there is no danger and that they are monitoring the area. Likewise, city housing officials say they're also keeping an eye on the park. The area used to be a landfill, which is why some residents say they want to be reassured of its safety. They say they worry about their property values, among other concerns. Environmental, parks and housing officials say they collect water data every two weeks and insist the park is fine. The golf course is set to open by the spring of 2014.
