A string of home break-ins in Belmont has neighbors on edge. News 12 The Bronx did a story on a string of break-ins last month near 188th and Hoffman streets, an off-campus housing enclave for many Fordham University students. Many who live off campus say they're concerned about their property when they leave for winter recess. Police say the suspect has struck at least six times in the community, entering homes through first-floor windows. According to the NYPD's crime stats, there has been a 10.9 percent increase in robberies this year and a 3.7 percent hike in burglaries in the community compared to the same period last year.
