Progress after months of 'deplorable' living conditions
A Bronx couple says they are relieved that poor living conditions in their apartment are being addressed after more than two months.
Carla Voter and her husband Karl say the conditions inside their apartment at 1892 Morris Ave. were so bad that they were considering moving into a shelter. The couple has one child and a second baby on the way.
For the past two months, the couple says they had been using plastic bags to go to the bathroom because the toilet didn't work. They claim rats, roaches, mold and peeling paint are other major problems in their apartment.
The couple reached out to News 12 The Bronx for help and was able to get a face-to-face meeting with Fritz Jean, the CEO of the building. Jean says he was unaware that repairs to the couple's apartment weren't being made by building management. Prestige Management, the building's management company, claims it had trouble gaining access to the couple's home.
News 12 has learned that the toilet has been fixed and full repairs are expected to be completed by the end of this week.
