Initiative aims to house Bronx artists
Some artists in the borough will soon be provided with affordable housing through the Bronx Artist Housing Initiative.
In exchange for housing, the artists involved will have to commit to at least 20 hours of community service per month.
BAHI teamed up with the Mid Bronx Senior Citizen Council and chashama to make the project possible.
Mid Bronx Senior Citizens Council has 28 apartment buildings in the Bronx. This year, 10 artists will be able to live in one of the apartments on Morris Avenue.
The artist housing initiative is only available in the Bronx, but organizers told News 12 that they hope to expand it to other boroughs in the future.
Applications for artists to apply for an apartment will be announced later this year.
