Inspector general releases policing procedure report

The NYPD's new inspector general released the Department of Investigation's annual report today on policing procedures.
The purpose of the report is to strengthen ties between the police and the community, as well as increase transparency.
The report highlighted complaints from the public regarding different policing procedures.
Last year, the office had more than 150 complaints covering a range of topics, such as wrongful arrests and convictions, police officers not taking complaint reports, issues with policing in minority communities and surveillance of political and religious groups.
The department also faced complaints about improper use of force, free speech violations and parking issues, which included police cruisers parked near police facilities.
