Fines begin for tossing electronic waste to the curb

If you're getting rid of any unwanted electronics, make sure to do it the right way or you could face a big fine.
The Department of Sanitation will begin handing out $100 tickets for placing certain electronic waste at the curb. This comes after a three month grace period for the state's e-waste law, which went into effect back on Jan. 1.
Officials say the law is important because electronics often contain harmful components that should not be in our waste stream. Those items include computers, television sets, DVD players, video game consoles, MP3 players and tablets.
As an alternative, you should utilize the e-cycleNYC pickup program, attend one of the city's electronic collection events or drop off your devices at retail donation programs such as Goodwill.
