Obama signs law on donations to slain officers' families
President Barack Obama has signed into law a measure allowing people to write off donations made this year to the families of two slain NYPD officers.
Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot in their patrol car in Brooklyn back in December by a man who then took his own life.
Under normal circumstances, individuals would have had to donate to the families by Dec. 31 to qualify for a deduction on their 2014 taxes.
The new legislation extends that deadline to April 15, the cutoff for Americans to file their personal income taxes.
