Teen critically injured in hit-and-run crash
A teenager is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle as he rode his bike early Sunday morning in Woodlawn.
Police say the 15-year-old was struck by a Toyota sedan at Jerome Avenue and East 233rd Street at around 9:30 p.m. The driver allegedly sped off.
The teen was transported to Jacobi Medical Center with a broken jaw, broken right leg and head trauma, according to police.
The driver was eventually tracked down by police. He was identified as 37-year-old Kabiru Mohammed, of Mount Vernon. Mohammed was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Residents in the area say they wish something would be done to improve safety at the intersection, which is notorious for serious accidents.
