1 dead, 1 wounded in University Heights shootings

One man is dead and a second is in critical condition after gunfire rang out in University Heights.

According to police, 26-year-old Angel Maestre, of the Bronx, was found unresponsive with a gunshot to the head on West 181st Street at around 9 p.m. Wednesday. He was declared dead at the scene.

Neighbors tell News 12 that Maestre was killed inside the lobby of a building, but he did not live there and tenants had never seen him before.

Authorities say the second victim was shot in the back just yards away at the intersection of West 181st Street and Davidson Avenue. He was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital.

No arrests have been made. Cops are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
