Study: Parents may not realize child is overweight
A new study reveals parents of overweight children may not realize their children actually have a health problem.
The study, which was done in the United Kingdom, found parents have a hard time perceiving a weight problem in their child unless the child is extremely obese.
Dr. Rubina Heptulla, of the Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center, says the problem often lies with the parents' own perception of weight.
Heptulla stresses the importance of a healthy diet and exercise to the patients she treats.
She also adds that some people are genetically prone to gaining weight more than others, so it's important for those parents to be particularly conscious of their children's diets and portion sizes.
