School to close despite improved performance
The J.P. Souza Middle School on Baychester Avenue will close its doors at the end of this school year after more than 50 years in operation.
After officials decided to begin phasing out the school in 2012 due to low performance, it transformed into an institution where students excelled.
Under the leadership of new principal Louisa Palmer, test scores increased along with attendance and a number of enrichment and after-school programs.
The school says its 2015 class boasts a 100 percent graduation rate.
