Slain NYPD officer promoted to detective at funeral

Thousands lined up outside of Saint James Church in Seaford on Friday to say their final farewells to NYPD Officer Brian Moore.
Holding back tears, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton posthumously promoted Moore to detective first-grade.
"A hero of the city, a guardian of the city, now a guardian at the gates of heaven," he said of Moore, who was 25 years old.
Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio said that Moore's name will be added to the memorial wall at One Police Plaza in Manhattan next year.
Moore was shot in the face when he and his partner stopped a man suspected of carrying a handgun in Queens last weekend. Demetrius Black was arrested later that day, and now faces murder charges and life in prison if convicted.
