Colleagues are taking the time to reflect on the life of an educational pioneer in New York City who was among those killed in Tuesday's Amtrak derailment.
Derrick Griffith, who was originally from the Bronx, worked as a dean of student affairs and enrollment at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn since 2011.
A candlelight vigil was held Thursday evening on the college campus.
Those who knew the 42-year-old say they will always remember his selfless dedication to helping others.
The school's president, Dr. Rudy Crew, spoke publicly about Griffith. He vowed that the school will find a way to keep his spirit present.
Griffith also founded the transitional CUNY Prep High School in the Bronx.
He leaves behind his mother and a 23-year-old son.
