Safety questioned after crossing guard hit by car
Parents in Belmont are asking for better safety measures after a crossing guard was hit by a car in front of their children on their way to school.
The guard was struck Friday outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel School at East 188th Street and Bathgate Avenue.
The incident marks the second time in five months that Jenny Arias was run down while doing her job. Parents and local leaders say the Department of Transportation has ignored multiple requests for new safety measures.
There is only one stop sign on Bathgate Avenue and none on East 188th Street. The DOT has said that it is looking into installing an all-way stop sign or speed bump in the area.
