Beach season kicks off today in the Bronx

Beach season is finally here and New York City is kicking it off right in the Bronx.
The ceremonial opening of Orchard Beach was held Wednesday, although the beach officially opens this Saturday. Residents say they are excited to finally get outside and enjoy the nice weather after a miserable winter.
Lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. However, the City Council is considering extending the hours because the beach is so popular. Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver says the proposal is under review.
All city beaches will then remain open until Labor Day.
