City beaches officially open for season

Many Bronx residents hit Orchard Beach Saturday for the official opening day of New York City's public beaches.

The chilly temperatures didn't stop people from walking along the boardwalk, soaking in some rays and relaxing.

Lifeguards are on duty daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until the beach closes Sept. 7.

The Health Department is offering a texting service where residents can get information on openings, closings and water quality information.
