Officials say one child was killed and another was injured when a vehicle slammed into a Pelham Bay restaurant.
Officials say the crash happened on Westchester Avenue just before 6 p.m. Investigators say a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were inside Kennedy's Chicken and Sandwiches with their family when the car reversed into the building and took off.
They say the driver of the car pulled out of the storefront and made it about three blocks before police pulled him over.
The children and another injured person were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where the 7-year-old boy was pronounced dead. The 5-year-old girl and the other injured person are listed in stable condition.
The boy has been identified as Ethan Villavicencio.
The 73-year-old driver is now facing charges in connection with the accident.
