BX girl starts basketball league to keep kids off streets
A Bronx girl started a 10-team basketball league to keep kids off the street in honor of her late brother.
Barbie Hope runs the Bronx Heavy Hitters, which allows both boys and girls to play on the same court.
Barbie says she wants to give her fellow kids a means to stay off the streets with the summer approaching.
She was supposed to play on her brother's team, but he died. She picked up the torch in his honor.
Players come from all over the borough, she says.
