A Bronx native is making a difference by helping to feed the hungry in New York.

Lisa Hines-Johnson, the chief operating officer of Food Bank for New York City, knew that she wanted to give back, but she couldn't have imagined the role she would play. She is the first Hispanic woman to hold the title of COO with the food bank.

Hines-Johnson is known for being hands-on, a necessary trait, as the food bank distributed about 76 million pounds of food alone last year. Hines-Johnson says the Bronx has some of the greatest demand for food.

About 16,000 people volunteer with the food bank, but Hines-Johnson says more hands are always needed.

The organization also accepts monetary donations, saying $1 can go as far as five meals.
