Three dance teams from the Bronx are making their final preparations ahead of the final rounds in a citywide dance competition this weekend.
Hundreds of teams have already been eliminated from contention. Just 10 remain to perform at the Apollo Theatre Saturday.
One team, the Classic Steppers, was founded a year ago for children aged 10 to 12 at a Bronx community center.
Team members say they are competing to honor victims of gang violence.
Organizers say each team must shed light on a social issue within their community.
"We started the competition to bring light that dance is not only a sport but also a catalyst for social change," says Darryl Rattray, of the city's Department of Youth and Community Development, which hosts the event.
