Restoration scheduled for 132nd Street pier
A restoration project aimed at creating green space and waterfront access in Port Morris finally has a start date after decades of planning.
Officials say the pier at the eastern end of 132nd Street will receive a facelift as part of the Haven Project, a program to revamp the South Bronx.
Groundbreaking on the work is set for 2017, but residents say it will be worth the wait.
Con Edison left the pier dilapidated in the 1980s, according to officials.
The restoration will bring much-needed green space to one of the city's heaviest industrial areas, where residents have high rates of asthma.
