Water, air conditioning turned off in Parkchester
A water main replacement in Parkchester has forced many residents to go without air conditioning and running water for the day.
Homes and businesses near the Westchester Avenue construction project had to shut off their water main valves and all water-cooled appliances, such as air conditioners and refrigerators, at 8 a.m.
The affected area is Westchester Avenue, between Taylor and Commonwealth avenues, and Saint Lawrence Avenue, between Westchester Avenue and East 172nd Street.
The city's Department of Design and Construction says the water and appliances must stay off until 4 p.m. to facilitate what it calls "necessary" repairs. Residents were advised to fill up bathtubs and sinks with water, and to get their fans ready.
