Summer Quest offers academic, emotional support
School may be out for the summer, but some middle schoolers are keeping their minds fresh with extra support along the way.
The Summer Quest program at the South Bronx Academy for Applied Media has students in sixth through eighth grades studying regular classroom lessons, from math to English, while also providing fun outdoor activities and emotional counseling.
The unique program is a collaboration with Partnership with Children, a city organization that works with high-need communities to provide kids with the support they need to succeed at home and at school.
Social workers work side-by-side with the students to not only prevent the "summer slide," but also to prevent them from entering a life of violence.
Summer Quest is open to all students in the South Bronx 7th Community School District. This year it has about 80 kids participating.
