Senior citizens in the LGBTQ community have been taking advantage of a variety of free services since the January opening of a nonprofit facility in the Bronx that caters to their needs.

Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders, or SAGE, located on East 188th Street in Fordham, provides an environment where LGBTQ seniors can make new friends, eat together, or enjoy arts and crafts. In addition to the fun, SAGE offers health information and counseling. 

Members say they have had a long road to get to this point in which society has become more open and understanding of them. Many say they went from being bullied while growing up to rallying for gay rights in the 1969 Stonewall Riots. 

The staff says that even those who identify as "straight" have found a home at SAGE, proving that no matter where they come from or how they identify themselves, they are welcome.
