Bronx teacher hit, killed biking across country
A Bronx teacher cycling across the country to raise money for a good cause was struck by a car and killed Friday.
Patrick Wanninkhof, who taught at Fordham High School for the Arts, was hit by a car while riding in Oklahoma.
The 25-year-old was biking from Maine to California to raise money for affordable housing.
The driver allegedly told police she was looking at her phone at the time of the crash, which also injured a fellow biker.
Wanninkhof was also involved in Teach For America, which released a statement on his passing that says, "We are heartbroken by this tragic loss. Patrick was a shining example of our vision in action who died in pursuit of social justice."
