Bronx center offers free space for volunteer-led activities
A south Bronx community center is offering free space for area residents to host events and volunteer-led activities.
Founders of the Bronx Social Center on Prospect Avenue and 164th Street say their multi-purpose space will be used for both community organizing and for enriching activities.
They say the space will be used free of charge and run strictly by volunteers.
Organizers say they'll also be offering free know-your-rights classes at the center to empower the community.
The free space will be available for activists to strategize about tackling issues such as crime, unemployment, landlord abuse and police brutality.
The center, sponsored by Occupy Wall Street-spinoff Take Back the Bronx, will begin holding workshops in art, yoga and martial arts beginning in September.
