AAA expects 35 million Americans to travel 50 miles or more during the three-day weekend.
In New York, an estimated 2.5 million people are expected to be on the roads this weekend.
Experts are attributing the increase in busy roads to lower gas prices. Officials say gas prices are $1 less compared to this time last year. The average national price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.42, the lowest it's been for Labor Day in 11 years.
AAA reminds drivers to be safe on the roads and to never drink and drive.
