Officials seal off alleged drug den

The state Department of Transportation has sealed off an area under the Sheridan Expressway after complaints of drug activity, mounds of trash and homeless people setting up shelter there.
As News 12 has previously reported, there were large mounds of garbage, makeshift shelters for the homeless and hundreds of used hypodermic needles on the ground throughout the area.
Residents say they were outraged. The site is just steps away from a playground and elementary school.
State and city officials began a massive cleanup of the area last Friday after News 12 reported the issue.
Workers installed a gate Wednesday, along with "no trespassing" signs.
The Department of Homeless Services says that four homeless people who lived there have accepted housing placements.
