The Department of Transportation confirms that the incident left structural damage and says that workers will now make repairs and install additional supports.
Residents are calling for the construction firm spearheading the project to hold a town hall forum and explain what happened.
The construction of the temporary bridge is already a year behind schedule. Demolition workers are taking down the old bridge to make room for a permanent replacement.
