Health experts are warning parents about the dangers of sexting.

St. Barnabas Hospital officials say more kids in middle school are sexting and posting provocative photos on social media websites like Facebook and Instagram.

Kevin Green, a clinician at St. Barnabas, says that children as young as 12 years old are participating in the sexting trend.

"The really serious social consequences that come with sexting are law enforcement and school suspensions," he says. "There are a lot of things that teens and kids should be aware of once they click the send button."

Health experts want to let parents know that they should continue to monitor their children's online presence and check their phones often.

They are advising parents to set certain rules with children about posting photos to social media before any issues can come up.
