Best of the Bronx: Garbage into art

One Bronx resident is helping the environment by creating artwork from debris that washes ashore.
Bronx native Daniel Lanzilotta trudges through beaches and along shores for discarded items that wash up. He turns what he finds into necklaces, rings and even hats.
For the last 20 years, his mission has been to increase public awareness about the abundant use of plastic.
Lanzilotta says that plastic will eventually clog Bronx waterways.
"Every piece of plastic that is manufactured will last a thousand years in the ocean," he says.
Lanzilotta says that 90 percent of debris he collects from waterways and shores is plastic.
