BX residents want change to deadly intersection

Bronx residents are calling for improvements to the intersection at 138th Street and Bruckner Avenue after a mother of five was struck and killed by a delivery truck.
On Monday, 37-year-old Cheniqua Silva was killed by the truck while waiting at a corner bus stop. Six other people were injured.
Residents say they are not surprised by the deadly crash due to how dangerous the intersection is.
The latest figures from the NYPD show there were 10 crashes at the intersection in August of this year alone.
Neighbors say between the speeding cars, the turning vehicles, the nearby highway and the heavy commercial traffic, crossing the 250-foot intersection is very dangerous.
The DOT has made improvements, including adding time for people to cross the intersection, but residents say they want speed cameras and possibly an agent stationed at the intersection to help slow traffic.
