Bronx woman charged with murder of 6-month-old daughter
Family members and other mourners of the 6-month-old girl whose mother allegedly threw her to her death out of an apartment building window joined together Friday night for a vigil.
Tenisha Fearon, 27, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Julinah Lawrence. She was ordered by a judge to a psychiatric evaluation and held without bail at her arraignment earlier in the day.
The incident occurred at around 2 p.m. Thursday. Police say several 911 callers reported Fearon was holding her child out a window in the back of her six-floor apartment building on Tiebout Avenue in Tremont. Fearon eventually dropped the girl, police say.
Lawrence was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Mourners and sympathizers have set up a makeshift memorial outside the building with candles and stuffed animals.
Fearon's three other children, all between ages 4 and 10, were found inside the apartment. Police say they have been taken from the mother for their own safety.
Fearon was a licensed day care provider up until a few months ago. The Health Department says she was running it out of her apartment, but her license expired and was not renewed.
Her godmother Louella Hatch told News 12 that she believes Fearon was suffering from postpartum depression.
Hatch says the baby's father lives in the Bronx and that police have been questioning him.
