5K honors fallen police officers
Dozens of officers from the 47th Precinct laced up their sneakers Sunday to honor officers killed in the line of duty.
The first annual 5K run began in front of the police station on Laconia Avenue. NYPD officers and community leaders ran through the streets of Edenwald and Baychester to honor the legacy of fallen officers.
Families of the fallen officers said they were overwhelmed with gratitude. "It's been wonderful, the support we've gotten from everybody, from the commissioner on down," said Michael Williams, whose son was killed in the line of duty. "These guys here at the 47th Precinct have been terrific, and it has helped us get through."
The run also honored Officer Randolph Holder, who was shot to death last week in East Harlem.
Participants hope the run grows even larger in the years to come.
