Thousands of people attended a wake for slain NYPD Officer Randolph Holder, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last week in East Harlem.
Friends, family and law enforcement officers from around the country paid their respects. Some officials from outside the U.S. were also expected to attend.
Holder is the fourth officer killed in the line of duty this year.
Holder's commanding officer described him as thoughtful, humble and quick to smile. But he also said the fallen officer took his job very seriously.
Holder was a third-generation police officer, according to family friends. His father and grandfather both served in their native Guyana.
The wake was held at the Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Cathedral of New York in Jamaica, Queens.
Mourners also turned out when police and community leaders held vigils Monday night at all of the city's 77 precincts.
Officials say the vigils lasted 37 minutes each to honor Holder, who was 33 years old, and an additional minute for each of the four other NYPD officers killed in the line of duty since December.
Officer Holder's funeral will be held at the Greater Allen AME Cathedral Wednesday afternoon.
