Fire rips through Eastchester auto body shop
Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that ripped through an Eastchester auto body shop this morning.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire at JNS Auto Body on Givan Avenue around 4:30 a.m.
Officials say the fire caused significant damage to the auto body shop, and three connecting shops behind it have smoke damage.
They say a firefighter suffered a minor injury of a sprained ankle, but is expected to be OK.
They say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Owner Jay Ali estimates that there is more than $2,000 worth of damage. He says insurance will cover most of the damage, but the memories and the future he had planned for the shop and his kids brings him to tears.
Ali says the building was like a second home to his family, and while he doesn't know what the next step is, he knows he will go on eventually.
