Inspired kidney donors pay it forward

An Army veteran's kidney donation spurred a string of donations that saved multiple lives, according to doctors, leading to a happy meeting of everyone involved Friday.

The 30-year-old Chris Forthman, who served overseas for five years, donated a kidney to 64-year-old Juan Garcia.

Inspired by the generosity, Garcia's daughter paid it forward by donating one of her kidneys to someone else in need.

The chain continued until four patients all received kidney donations.

All eight people involved met for the first time Friday at Montefiore Medical Center, where they will all be recovering for the next few days.
