The Bronx man who police say hanged himself in a 49th Precinct holding cell has died, according to officials.
Samuel Reyes was on life support in the intensive-care unit at Jacobi Medical Center since Wednesday.
Officials say he died at 4:56 p.m. Friday.
Police have released a statement regarding Reyes' death, but have not answered questioned asked by News 12 about the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police source has said that Reyes was found in his cell hanged by a piece of cloth ripped from his own robe, but family members dispute that account.
Family members say they have hired an attorney to take action against police.
