Tenants without gas for nearly 5 months
Families on Taylor Avenue say they have been dealing with a disruption in gas service for nearly five months.
On June 26, a fire started in the basement of the building at 1450 Taylor Ave. Nearly five months later, the gas lines still aren't working.
"If they have the permit then why haven't they really started doing the work so that we could have the gas on by now?" says resident Andrea Oculien. "It ruined our holidays."
The property's management company, JLP Metro Management, handed tenants letters Tuesday explaining that they were doing everything in their power to fix the gas issue, but that there have been unforeseen holdups.
In a statment, JLP Metro Managment says, "The property at 1450 Taylor Avenue withstood a fire last June that resulted in the disablement of the gas lines throughout the building. We have been working diligently with the Fire Department, Department of Buildings and the City to restore gas to residents after the fire. We are happy to report we were issued a permit by the City yesterday, November 24th, and have contractors in the building today to begin work. We anticipate the work will be completed in approximately two weeks pending cooperation from tenants to access units, and will have the gas turned back on once we receive city approval. We will continue to keep our residents actively informed on the progress of the work especially during the holiday season."
