Resident receives mail theft warning in West Farms

A Bronx resident says he received a warning from his post office advising him to stop using the neighborhood mailbox to send checks or cash.

John Mendozza called News 12 The Bronx after he says the post office warned him about mail thieves running rampant in West Farms. He say thieves are using a can, string and glue to fish out letters that may contain checks or cash.

Mendozza says he sent out bills earlier this month that were not received. He wants the post office to make the problem more known to the community.

"Tell the people. Bring it out to the open. Don't wait until it happens to someone," says Mendozza.

The United State Postal Service says to drop important mail items inside the post office or hand deliver them to a letter carrier.
