People say it's a win-win for everyone because shoppers save money and the shops get a boost in business.
"Small Business Saturday is to remind everybody that it's the importance of small businesses that keeps our economy running and keeps our neighborhoods vital," Metro Optics Eyewear owner John Bonizio said.
The annual event was started in 2010 by American Express.
Customers were able to bring their receipts from any local business to receive a free tote bag.
