A hit-and-run driver fatally struck a 47-year-old man crossing a Mott Haven street Monday morning, police say.
A white van struck Thomas Kirby as he crossed at Willis Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard, according to investigators. The crash happened at around 6:40 a.m.
Kirby's neighbors say he was a father of three and had gone out to pick up unspecified medication. They have set up a makeshift memorial at the intersection.
According to the city's Vision Zero website, which tracks pedestrian deaths, there have been six other people who have been hit at the corner since Oct. 31.
Police are working to identify the white van's driver. They are also reviewing surveillance video from nearby buildings.
Investigators are asking anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
