While taxes are probably the last thing on people's minds during the holiday season, one expert says it's important to start thinking ahead.

Accountant Richard Rodriguez, of Burns Rodriguez and Associates, says no matter what kind of charity work people are doing, they can probably write it off on their taxes.

He says that the key is being organized and saving receipts throughout the year.

If donating clothing, it's important to itemize and add up how much it is worth. When volunteering, note if and how much money is spent. Rodriguez says people can even get partially reimbursed for gas money on the way to volunteering.

He says whatever people plan on donating, do it before the end of this month to ensure getting some money back during this tax season instead of next.
