Bronx priest accused of embezzling $1 million
A Bronx priest is being accused of stealing over $1 million from New York City churches.
News 12 has obtained a copy of a lawsuit filed against Rev. Peter Miqueli. The lawsuit states the priest stole money from his parishes at St. Frances de Chantal's Church in Throgs Neck and St. Frances Cabrini Church on Roosevelt Island over a 10-year period.
The lawsuit also claims Miqueli used donation money meant for the churches on renovations made on his New Jersey home, drugs and the services of a male prostitute.
Miqueli has been with the Throgs Neck church since 2012. A number of parishioners say they want him to step down by the end of the year.
The Archdiocese of New York released a statement saying it "has, from the beginning, taken these allegations seriously, and has been investigating them."
News 12 reached out to the attorney who filed the lawsuit, but has not yet heard back.
